This prop is part of my new YouTube time lapse project where I try to model and texture a prop in two days. The modelling took me around 4 hours to complete and the texturing another 6. I used my skills in Hard Surface modelling to achieve this result making full use of the Bevel Modifier, Blender's Auto Smooth function, and Hardened Normals to diffuse any artifacts.
The Texturing process was quite fun actually, as I wanted to really grasp the true feel of damaged metal. From the scratches on the nickel surfaces to the heavy damage and rust on the steel body, there was plenty of room for experimentation utilizing Substance Painter's Mask Generator.
This prop will be part of an ensemble of doomsday/apocalyptic props that are inspired by our current times.
